Local Leicester Company Receives Hat Trick At National Awards Ceremony
Jamie Lewis Residential Lettings has just been nominated for three awards at a National Ceremony. The Landlord and Letting Awards 2010 has put forward Jamie Lewis Residential as a finalist for three awards for:-
Customer Services
Innovation
Campaigner
These premier national awards are hosted by Landlord & Buy-to-Let Magazine. The organisers told us "This year we received over four times more entries across all categories than we did in 2009, as all entries were of extremely high quality, Jamie Lewis Residential should be extremely proud of themselves for reaching this stage".
The final awards are made at a ceremony in November 2010. Jamie Lewis is delighted "This is the second year running we have been nominated for a customer services award and just delighted for all the staff who have worked so hard at making the rental process for our tenants that much better, I'm so proud of them all".

Student accommodation in Leicester - New Developments Gain Local Support
These buildings a bonus for city
I write in response to Nick Di Perna's letter "Planning rethink needed" (Mailbox, September 7) and find it difficult to understand why anyone would be against the purpose-built student developments that are either proposed or under construction in the vicinity of De Montfort University.
The developments provide modern, clean and very safe accommodation to those away from home for the first time and, being within walking distance of the university, reduce the carbon footprint of trips to and from the place of study.
They are developed on what would be otherwise derelict sites, so there are no real detrimental effects on the local landscape. And at a time where there is a shortage of both student and rental accommodation, they provide a way of releasing many residential properties back as non-student lets or family homes. This can all surely be a good thing?
As far as Jamie Lewis (the developer the letter mentions) is concerned, this company has majored on providing affordable accommodation across the West End of Leicester and judging by the work in progress on their building in Eastern Boulevard, provide employment for many tradespeople at a time when the building industry is suffering especially badly.
In my opinion they should be encouraged and not criticised in what they do.
As someone involved in business, and, indeed, property development, I can tell Mr Di Perna that making a living with all the various hurdles involved and the current trading climate is hard enough without members of the public trying to derail the process.
I, therefore, hope that the council continue to support the work that is going on to improve the city's accommodation offering for students and young tenants.
